Did you know that your spinal cord is protected by 33 vertebrae in your spine (7 cervical, 12 thoracic, 5 lumbar, 5 sacral, and 4 coccygeal). Chiropractic treatments are applied after the diagnosis of specific restricted spinal segments are diagnosed. The examination during your first visit detects and diagnoses spinal instability. In addition, a detailed soft tissue examination will be performed if any muscle tightness or muscle spasming is present. Essentially, our treatments are a blend of chiropractic, massage, and physio therapy. Lastly, a functional examination will be rendered to determine the true “cause” of your problem. Often, areas that may not be causing pain could be leading to why you are injured.
The chiropractic adjustment is a gentle, specific, and direct mobilization of the restricted spinal segment. Often when the joints are gapped in between each vertebra, a “cracking” or “popping” sound is heard. This sound is nothing more than a release of a gas out of the spinal segments. It is no different from the sound that someone may hear when they crack their knuckles. Sometimes people get concerned that the chiropractic adjustment is cracking or moving a bone when in fact that is inaccurate. Research has found that the chiropractic adjustment improves mobility, decreases muscle tightness, and alleviates pain directly by inhibiting the pain relaying message to and from the brain.
