Chiropractic Adjustments

What is a chiropractic adjustment?
A chiropractic adjustment is a gentle and effective technique that is used by many chiropractors that provides mobilizations in the spine and other joints. The adjustment has been studied to alleviate the pressure that is being pressed on muscles, joints, nerves, tendons, and ligaments. Current research has supported that chiropractic adjustments are moderately effective for acute low back pain, neck pain, and headaches or migraines.

Can a chiropractic adjustment hurt?
The adjustment helps to improve mobility through the spine. Occasionally, a person might experience some soreness after their first treatment. This may be related to stretching of the tight muscles that are protecting an injured area. The majority of people do not experience any soreness. At Hometown Spine & Sport, we specialize in gentle and light treatments in order to avoid any post-treatment soreness. Our main goal is to ensure that your comfort and concerns are addressed.

What is the “popping” or “cracking” sound heard during the adjustment?
When the spine is stretched out or mobilized, a “cracking” sound may be heard. That sound is nothing more than stretching a specific joint in the spine. The actual sound heard during an adjustment is the release of gaseous material in each joint. The same sound could be heard if someone was to crack their knuckles. Bones are not being cracked or moved but rather being stretched out to the point that takes the pressure off of the nerves, joints, and muscles.

A 2013 study from Spine, a prestigious medical journal, found that Chiropractic Manipulative Therapy (CMT) in conjunction with standard medical care offers a significant advantage for decreasing pain and improving physical functioning when compared with only standard care. Chiropractic adjustments are light, gentle and directed towards a specific segment of the spine. Many people report moderate to significant relief after just one adjustment.

Chiropractic Rehabilitation
20 years ago, the old philosophy for treating back pain was bed rest. The current research has found that light stretching and exercise is moderately effective in providing pain relief during an acute injury. We will explain and demonstrate the appropriate exercises for you. We will give you a handout with pictures of the prescribed exercises so that you can accelerate the healing process by doing your exercises outside of the office.

"Chiropractor that goes the extra mile"

Love the office atmosphere. Dr. Josh is extremely thorough and utilizes multiple different techniques to fix your issue. I have been to chiropractors before that do the same 3 things and I would see no improvement. You will not get that here!!

Dr. Josh also recommends stretches/exercises to do at home which I greatly appreciate! If you want a chiropractic that goes the extra mile this is it!!

"Honesty, integrity, and compassionate quality care "

Dr. Josh helped me through some severe back pain a few months ago, I couldn’t stand straight, sit, sleep or walk without being in excruciating pain. After my initial visit, I was 90% pain-free! And not only did my adjustment take care of my immediate problem he also took the time to listen to all of my concerns and issues and made a game plan to help me be pain-free.

The staff is always so friendly and the office itself is very modern, clean and just a great atmosphere all around! No high-pressure sales here either, which is what I’ve experienced in the past from other chiropractors, just honesty, integrity, and compassionate quality care is what you’ll find here!

"Highly recommend this place"

I am a competitive Olympic weightlifter that had been dealing with some nagging shoulder pain and neck pain for a few months after my last big meet. My shoulders were weak and unstable and my personal methods of rolling them out and trying to strengthen them were not making my situation better.

After deciding an old shoulder injury that was not properly taken care may have been impacting me, I decided to check out Hometown Spine and Sport. Within a little less than two months, we were able to break through scar tissue, strengthen the little supporting muscles, and completely rid of my shoulder pain. I have regained full range of motion and managed to achieve greater records in my snatch and clean&jerk lifts as a result.

Highly recommend this place. He is so knowledgeable and friendly, and really gets a lot of work done on you in a short enough amount of time that you can stop in on your lunch break.
